Lawrence Energy Conservation Fair
Sunday, October 19, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Free State High School at 4700 Overland Drive
Admission is FREE!
Learn how to save energy, money, and the environment.
Throughout the day you will have opportunities to view energy conservation exhibits and to consult with experts on how their products and services can lower your utility bills and increase the energy efficiency of your home or business. Exhibitors will include area builders, architects, insulators, heating and cooling experts, government agencies, non-profits, and alternatively-fueled vehicle representatives. Local businesses will have energy saving products on site, including high efficiency windows, compact fluorescent bulbs, weather-stripping and programmable thermostats.

The Lawrence Energy Conservation Fair and Sustainable Homes Tour seeks to educate the community regarding the positive impact of energy conservation and provide businesses and residents with information, services and product ideas directed toward improving energy efficiency.

7:15 PM - Our Energy Future: How Kansas Can Lead, presentation by Nancy Jackson, Executive Director of the Climate and Energy Project, a Project of the Land Institute
Nancy Jackson,
Executive Director of the Climate & Energy Project
The Climate & Energy Project (CEP) is a program of The Land Institute, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded 30 years ago in Salina, Kansas. Land Institute scientists are developing perennial cropping systems that mimic nature to preserve ecosystems and offer farmers new options. CEP promotes renewable energy and energy efficiency to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure long-term resilience in Kansas and the Midwest.
Jackson sits on the Midwestern Greenhouse Gas Accord Advisory Group, the Kansas Energy and Environmental Policy Advisory Group, and the Kansas Wind Working Group. She holds an MA in environmental history from the University of Kansas and brings experience in corporate finance, equities research, scholarly publishing, and development.
Sustainable Business Tour
Saturday, October 11, 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.
starting at Zarco Earth Friendly Fuels at 9th & Iowa Street
The Sustainable Business Tour will include Zarco Earth Friendly Fuels, Bowersock Mills and Power Company, The Castle Tea Room, and the Community Mercantile.

Sustainable Homes Tour
Sunday, October 19, 10:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
leaving from Free State High School at 4700 Overland Drive
The Sustainable Homes Tour is sponsored by the Heartland Renewable Energy Society and is conducted as a part of the American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Tour. The Tour features homes in Lawrence and surrounding communities that demonstrate the use of renewable energy building designs, materials, construction methods and energy saving appliances.
The Tour tickets will be sold at the Fair for $8 per adult and $2 per child. Tour buses will leave from the parking lot at Free State High School at 10:30 am & 2 pm.

2007 Energy Conservation Fair and Sustainable Homes Tour Highlights
Speakers and workshops scheduled throughout the day provided over 500 citizens with information on weatherizing in order to keep heating costs low, energy efficient new home construction, remodeling, and related topics. Alternatively fueled vehicles, heating and cooling vendors, wind and solar power experts, engineers, architects, and natural home product vendors were among the exhibitors.
