8th Annual Earth Day Celebration

The Lawrence Earth Day Celebration works to educate residents, businesses and surrounding communities regarding the importance of responsible environmental policies, raise awareness of each individual’s impact on the natural environment, and highlight actions each person can take to make Lawrence and Douglas County a more sustainable and eco-friendly place to live.

Celebration in South Park
Saturday, April 19, 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
South Park at 11th & Massachusetts Street

Live music, food, and children’s activities. Exhibits about waste reduction, recycling, composting, alternative fuels and vehicles, energy conservation, land preservation, wildlife and habitat preservation, and more. Featuring the April Showers to Water Towers: Water Festival for Douglas County, which uses fun, educational activities to present information regarding watersheds, stormwater pollution, erosion, drinking water and other water quality issues.

Come to the Earth Day Celebration in style: walk, bike, or ride the T for free!

    Read-Out, Sing-Out, Speak-Out, Act-Out, Dance-Out on Earthcare

    Buford Watson Park

    This event will take place at the gazebo in Buford Watson Park on April 5, 2008. This event, which we hope will become an annual event in Lawrence, will kick-off the month of April which concludes with Earth Day. It will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the morning of April 5 and continue through the night until the morning of April 6. We invite anyone-old and young, alone or in groups-who can read, sing, speak, act, dance, make music, or perform in any way to sign up for a 10-minute slot in a 24-hour, marathon event on global warming.

    LADA Earth Day Fashion Show
    Saturday, April 19th at 7:00 p.m.
    Lied Center

    On April 19, 2008, Lada Salon & Spa will host their fourth annual Earth Day Fashion Show at the Lied Center. This event is a fundraiser for Clean Water Fund, a national organization working to achieve safe and clean waters for all Americans. Fashion models will wear spring attire from local designers and various downtown shops. Hair and makeup inspired by nature will be provided by Lada Salon hair designers.

    The Earth Day Fashion Show will begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10, available in advance at the Lied Center Box Office and Lada Salon & Spa. You may also purchase tickets at the door on the night of the event.

    SundanceChannel.com to Launch Original Webseries "The Good Fight" on Earth Day, April 22
    Sundance Channel will launch the original web series, "THE GOOD FIGHT," hosted and created by award-winning environmental journalist Simran Sethi on April 22, 2008.
    "THE GOOD FIGHT" will feature webisodes exploring issues of environment justice such as the rebuilding of Greensburg, Kansas as a green town, in-depth interviews with leaders in the environmental justice field, an area for blog posts discussing themes raised in the series and discussion boards available on www.sundancechannel.com/thegoodfight
