Municipal Paper Recycling Drop Boxes

NEW! Mixed Paper Recycling! Bins are grey and marked "Mixed Paper".

Chipboard (like what cereal boxes are made of), magazines and junk mail can be placed in the Mixed Paper bins .

Green bins are marked "Newspaper Only" and tan bins are marked "Cardboard Only".

Corrugated cardboard and paper grocery sacks only in the cardboard bins. A good way to see if your item is corrugated is to hold it up and look at the edge (cross-section). If you see a wavy line sandwiched between the two outer layers, it counts as corrugated.

No plastic sacks, string/twine or debris in any of the bins, please!

YARD TRIMMINGS

GRASS & LEAVES, SMALL TRIMMINGS

Separate citywide collection of yard trimmings occurs on Monday mornings, March through mid-December. Set your grass, leaves, and other small yard trimmings out by 6:00 a.m. in cans, carts, or compostable bags. Plastic bags are no longer allowed for containment of grass and leaves during the separate collection season. Separate collection of yard trimmings in 2007 begins on Monday, March 5, and will occur every Monday through December 17th, weather permitting, except on the following Mondays:

  • Monday, May 28- Memorial Day
  • Monday, July 30- Student Move-Out Day
  • Monday, September 3- Labor Day

Grass and leaves set out just before and during the week of the above "holiday" Mondays will be collected with regular trash and sent to the landfill. During the separate collection season, residents may use plastic bags for grass and leaves only when their grass and leaves are bound for the landfill during one of the above weeks.

Small woody debris may be placed with Monday yard trimmings for composting. Such small sticks may be in cans, carts or compostable bags, if protruding no more than one foot above the container opening, or bundled in bundles no larger than 18 inches in diameter, 5 feet in length, or 65 pounds in weight. Do NOT tie with wire. For more information on proper containment of yard trimmings and the new ordinance requiring the use of cans, carts, or compostable bags (or bundles for small woody waste), visit our Cans, Carts and Compostable Bags page.

Please note that lawns treated with products containing Clopyralid are not eligible for Monday collection, as Clopyralid persists in our compost and could potentially harm senstitive garden plants if the compost is applied heavily. If using such an herbicide (including some weed & feed products), simply mulch mow your clippings back onto your lawn and reap the benefits of your applied chemicals and natural nutrients and moisture by returning them to your lawn. For more information on Clopyralid, visit our "Education is key to better compost..." page or view/print our
